Article 60. Transportation of companion animals
1. The transfer of pets that do not meet the conditions established in article 59 is prohibited.
2. When pets must remain in parked vehicles, the pertinent measures will be adopted so that aeration and temperature are adequate.
3. Without prejudice to the provisions of the previous article, when pets are transported in connection with an economic or professional activity and they are not accompanied by their owner, the driver or the caretaker must have the documentation that certify that he will take care of the animal at destination. If, despite this, the animal is not received at destination or the trip cannot be continued for any reason, it will be the obligation of the carrier or the person who has assumed responsibility for the animal, to take the appropriate measures to guarantee due care of the animal.
4. In the case of a transport such as the one mentioned in the previous section, with origin or destination in Spain or in another Member State of the European Union, the holder must request the corresponding movement certificate from the competent authority in the field of animal health.
5. The sending of live animals by mail, courier or similar is prohibited, except for the transport of animals carried out by entities dedicated to the professional transport of animals, which guarantee their care during the movement. The transport of live animals suitable for shipment in hermetic containers is exempted from this prohibition, provided that the carrier and the vehicle are registered as animal carriers, the containers are suitable to maintain optimum parameters for 48 hours, are waterproof and insulated and contain media to maintain an optimal temperature and are sent with a return protocol to the origin of a maximum of 48 hours from the start of the shipment.
6. The transport of pets must be carried out in rooms specially adapted for them, unless they travel in the same space as their manager, without prejudice to the provisions of road safety regulations.
